Earn an Ontario High School Computer Science Credit

Above & Beyond Learning Experience (ABLE), in partnership with Real Programming 4 Kids (RP4K), now offers Grade 10 and Grade 11 computer science courses for Ontario secondary school credit.

These live, instructor-led courses give students an opportunity to build meaningful programming and technology skills while working toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma requirements.

Students learn directly from experienced programming instructors through structured synchronous classes, practical assignments, independent work and project-based learning.

Live Online Learning with Structured Independent Work

Each course runs for 18 weeks, with one 2-hour live synchronous class each week. This provides 36 hours of direct instructor-led learning.

The remaining course learning time is completed through structured independent work, including assignments, programming practice, assessment, design documentation and culminating projects. Recorded or video material may support instruction but is not used as a substitute for the course’s structured learning requirements.

Learn from an Experienced Programming Instructor

 
The instructor will be Adam from Real Programming 4 Kids. He has already taught two coding camps (in July and August) in the summer at Above and Beyond Learning! Adam is currently in his fourth year at Lakehead University for Computer Science!
 
He lives in Barrie, and has been teaching with RP4K since May 2025. During his time with RP4K he has helped students explore programming through fun and creative projects, His students have created simple arcade games and some more advanced logic-based challenges. The idea for Candy Crush came from witnessing (in Aug 2025 while teaching a summer coding camp at Above and Beyond Learning) how fun it can be for students to play in their free time, and he wishes to give them the creativity to make their own, whether they want to create their own items, patterns and levels. 
 
Adam wants students to see how popular games can be recreated step-by-step using real programming principles. It is a great way to blend logic and problem-solving while building something familiar and rewarding.

This course helps students develop cutting-edge digital technology and computer programming skills that will support them in contributing to and leading the global economic, scientific and societal innovations of tomorrow. Students will learn and apply coding concepts and skills to build hands-on projects and investigate artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other emerging digital technologies that connect to a wide range of fields and careers. Using critical thinking skills with a focus on digital citizenship, students will investigate the appropriate use and development of the digital technologies that they encounter every day, as well as the benefits and limitations of these technologies.

This course introduces students to computer science. Students will design software independently and as part of a team, using industry-standard programming tools and applying the software development life-cycle model. They will also write and use subprograms within computer programs. Students will develop creative solutions for various types of problems as their understanding of the computing environment grows. They will also explore environmental and ergonomic issues, emerging research in computer science, and global career trends in computer-related fields.
